Every batch, traceable back to the ingredients that went into it.

Sasha Treat is produced to the Australian Standard for the Manufacturing and Marketing of Pet Food, AS 5812:2017 — the same benchmark the country’s largest pet food makers hold themselves to. Here’s exactly what that means, in plain terms.

What AS 5812:2017 actually covers

AS 5812:2017 is Australia’s national standard for manufactured pet food. It sets out how ingredients should be sourced and stored, how food should be processed and packed, what a label has to say, and how a business would trace and recall a batch if it ever needed to. It applies to every pet food maker in the country — from national brands to a home kitchen in Brisbane.

Unlike human food law, the standard is voluntary — there’s no inspector who checks a box. That’s exactly why we chose to hold ourselves to it: it’s the difference between “homemade” as a shortcut and “homemade” as a genuine standard of care.

“The words on our packet mean something. If we say chicken, there’s real chicken in it. If we say a batch number, we can trace it back to the day it was baked.”
— Sasha Treat, on why we hold to AS 5812

How every cookie and cake meets the standard

Six practices we follow on every single production day, not just when someone’s asking.
Ingredient sourcing icon

Ingredient sourcing

Every supplier is recorded — where the chicken, flour and vegetables come from, and confirmation each is fit for pets before it enters our kitchen.

Batch coding icon

Batch coding

Every run gets a batch number and bake date, so any question about a specific pack can be traced straight back to it.

Honest claims icon

Honest claims

“Preservative-free,” “natural” and every ingredient name on our labels reflects exactly what’s in the product — nothing overstated.

Baking & hygiene controls icon

Baking & hygiene controls

Baking temperatures and times are logged for every batch, in a kitchen kept to the same hygiene routine each time.

Tested shelf life icon

Tested shelf life

Because nothing artificial is added to extend it, every product’s best-before date comes from real freshness testing, not a guess.

A recall plan on paper icon

A recall plan on paper

A written procedure for tracing and contacting customers by batch, kept ready even though we’ve never had to use it.

What you'll find on every label

AS 5812 sets out exactly what a pet food label needs to say. Here’s what’s on ours, and why it’s there.

Why we bother with all of this

Sasha’s been the reason for these cookies since day one — we started baking for her, at home, the same way we still do today. Growing beyond our own kitchen table meant deciding early that “homemade” wouldn’t be an excuse to cut corners. Holding ourselves to AS 5812:2017 is how we keep that promise as the business grows, so every dog getting a Sasha Treat cookie or celebration cake is as safe as the very first batch we baked for her.
